Rabbi Sackett studied at Ner Israel Rabbinical College in Baltimore where he received his Rabbinical Ordination in 1978. He simultaneously earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Towson State University and a Master of Education in Administration and Supervision from John Hopkins University.
Rabbi Sackett began his career in Jewish Education at the Hebrew Academy of Tidewater where he taught and later became Principal. During his tenure in Virginia, Rabbi Sackett served not only the school but the community at large. He became Regional Coordinator of the Virginia Region of N.C.S.Y., organized Adult Programming at the Bnai Israel Synsgogue and in 1986 received the first ever Distinguished Professional Service Award presented by the Tidewater Advocates for Jewish Education of the United Jewish Fedration of Tidewater.
The Sackett family moved to Cincinnati in 1986 and later to Staten Island in 1989. Rabbi Sackett served as Prinicipal of the Cincinnati Hebrew Day School and the Jewish Foundation School respectively during those periods of time. He has continued his own course of studies through a doctoral program at Yeshiva University.
Rabbi Sackett has served the Lancaster Community as Rabbi of Congregation Degel Israel since August of 1992. The Rabbi is married and has five children. His wife, Buci, comes from Frederick, Maryland. She has taught Judaic Studies in various grades from first grade through High School and has led many successful Adult education courses for women. Buci founded the N.C.S.Y. chapter in Frederick while she herself was still in High School and has worked with Jewish youth ever since. Buci's creativity and teaching ability was recognized by the Bureau of Jewish Education of Cincinnati who awarded her with an Outstanding Teacher Award for her development of curricular material for the teaching of Preliminary Bible skills.
